The INM is a member of the Leibniz Association, which connects 96 research institutions that range in focus on natural, engineering, and environmental sciences to the economics, spatial and social sciences, and the humanities.
The INM coordinates the Leibniz Science Campus Living Living Therapeutic Materials. Together with Saarland University and the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland, it develops new materials for the personalized administration of biotherapeutics.
The INM coordinates the Leibniz Research Alliance Advanced Materials Safety. With twelve partner institutes, the alliance researches the safety of advanced materials for humans and the environment over the entire life cycle of these materials. The alliance aims at providing guidelines for the responsible development of functional and safe materials.
In 2018, the INM and the Leibniz Association appointed Robert McMeeking, Distinguished Professor of Engineering, University of California, Santa Barbara, USA, as Leibniz Chair to recognize his services to the INM. He is one of the world’s leading materials researchers in theoretical modeling and numerical simulation of complex materials.
