The INM welcomes Dr Bin Qu as its new Fellow. She’s a group leader in Biophysics at the Saarland University Faculty of Medicine.
She investigates the way how killer cells from the immune system find and destroy infected or tumorigenic cells.
In cooperation with the INM, she will focus on how killer cells move across tissues and are influenced by the physical and chemical properties of the microenvironment. For this purpose, she works closely with the INM groups Dynamic Biomaterials and Cytoskeletal Fibers. Dr Qu’s expertise reinforces the activities in the field of immunomodulatory materials at INM. She and the INM also contribute their expertise to the Collaborative Research Centre 1027 (Sonderforschungsbereich SFB 1027) “Physical modeling of non-equilibrium processes in biological systems”.
The INM Fellow model is open for all scientists from all universities, whose research is complementary to the INM research areas. It comes with a PhD position at the INM and enables the INM Fellow to have access to the subject-specific and technical know-how of the INM. Apart from two male professors and one female professor of Saarland University as well as an international INM Fellow, the INM strengthen its cooperation with the Saarland University Faculty of Medicine by its cooperation with the cell biologist Qu.
Dr Bin Qu studied biology in Heifei, China. She completed her Master of Science in cell biology in Shanghai, China. She graduated in biology at Saarland University in 2010, where she did research as a PostDoc in biophysics at the Saarland University Faculty of Medicine. Since 2013, the cell biologist is a group leader at the Center for Integrative Physiology and Molecular Medicine (CIPMM) at the Saarland University Faculty of Medicine.
